The fall season is the perfect time to focus on many harvest-related crafts. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s a great time of year to make some fun corn crafts!
Ornamental Corn, belonging to the Zea mays species, is a unique variety of grass with brightly colored corn cobs. Referred to as Indian corn, Calico corn, and Flint corn, it boasts a rich history, with its origins dating back to ancient times. This particular corn variety was first cultivated by Native Americans and has since become a symbol of cultural heritage and natural beauty.
This beaded corn craft is the perfect way to celebrate the season and makes a great activity for younger kids to work on their fine motor skills. It’s a low-mess craft that requires only pony beads and pipe cleaners to create. A great craft idea to make within the classroom!

Supplies Needed for Harvest Corn Craft:
NOTE: We placed our pony beads into a bowl to keep them within easy reach while beading our pipe cleaners.
How to Make Pipe Cleaner Corn Craft:
First, twist the pipe cleaners together in the center and fan out.
Bead each piece, leaving about 2” unbeaded at the ends
Fold the spokes up, and twist the ends of the pipe cleaners together to create the corn husk.
Adjust the beaded pieces until they look like corn. Voila!
Kids will have a great time making their very own harvest mini corn to display!

Does This Project Require Glue?
Nope! Just twist the ends of the pipe cleaners together to secure your beads, no glue is needed. This will also create the realistic look of the corn husk.
What If I Don’t Have Corn Colored Beads?
No problem! Let kids use their imaginations to create many color combos with their individual corn crafts. You’ll be surprised at how cute some of the fun and funky colors will turn out!
