The fall season is the perfect time to focus on many harvest-related crafts. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s a great time of year to make some fun corn crafts!
Ornamental Corn, belonging to the Zea mays species, is a unique variety of grass with brightly colored corn cobs. Referred to as Indian corn, Calico corn, and Flint corn, it boasts a rich history, with its origins dating back to ancient times. This particular corn variety was first cultivated by Native Americans and has since become a symbol of cultural heritage and natural beauty.
This beaded corn craft is the perfect way to celebrate the season and makes a great activity for younger kids to work on their fine motor skills. It’s a low-mess craft that requires only pony beads and pipe cleaners to create. A great craft idea to make within the classroom!

What You’ll Need:
Instructions:
- First, twist the pipe cleaners together in the center and fan out.
- Bead each piece, leaving about 2” unbeaded at the ends
- Fold the spokes up, and twist the ends of the pipe cleaners together to create the corn husk.
- Adjust the beaded pieces until they look like corn. Voila!
