The fall season is the perfect time to focus on many harvest-related crafts. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, it’s a great time of year to make some fun corn crafts!

Ornamental Corn, belonging to the Zea mays species, is a unique variety of grass with brightly colored corn cobs. Referred to as Indian corn, Calico corn, and Flint corn, it boasts a rich history, with its origins dating back to ancient times. This particular corn variety was first cultivated by Native Americans and has since become a symbol of cultural heritage and natural beauty.

This beaded corn craft is the perfect way to celebrate the season and makes a great activity for younger kids to work on their fine motor skills. It’s a low-mess craft that requires only pony beads and pipe cleaners to create. A great craft idea to make within the classroom!

  1. 4 stars
great easy craft. however, the instructions state 4 pipe cleaners, but the pictures show 6. i tried the craft with 4 regular sized pipe cleaners, and it was too tall and skinny. then i noticed that the pictures show 6 pipe cleaners. i cut 3 pipe cleaners in half, and used approx 40 beads to make the craft. it pretty much turned out as the pictures.

    1. I’m glad to hear that you got it worked out and that six pipe cleaners worked best for you, Angie; however, ours ARE made from four pipe cleaners. I think you got confused because my hands are covering up a couple of the pipe cleaner ends in one of the images as I am twisting them together.

You can clearly see in the image here that there are 8 “spokes” to be beaded as a result of four pipe cleaners being twisted together in the middle. We also have a video demonstration on our Instagram here where you can see this as well. 🙂
