How to Make Elf Donut Shop Props
Busy moms and dads, we’ve got you covered with quick and easy elf idea that is sure to be a HUGE hit with the kids!
Supplies Needed:
- Dasher Donuts Printable Templates (available below)
- Letter-Sized White Cardstock (5 sheets)
- Color Printer (we use a HP Color Laserjet)
- Hot Glue Gun
- Sheet of Felt
- Pen, Pencil, or Chalk
- Scissors
- Ruler
- Bone Folder or other Straight-Edged Tool to assist with folding
- 1/8″ Ribbon
- Mini Donuts (1:12 scale – dollhouse sized)
Step 1: Printing the Elf Props
Open the prop template file on your computer (using your program of choice) and set your printer settings. In the print settings (also sometimes called “printer properties”) select US letter sized paper (8.5″ x 11″) and make sure that it is set to print at 100% scale. This is important to ensure that the PDF file prints at the correct size.
Send the file to the printer to print on white cardstock.
Step 2: Cut Out the Elf Props
Use your scissors to cut out all of the prop template pieces and the apron pattern. Be sure to keep the folding and gluing guides handy – set them to the side for reference.
Note: the red dashed lines on the guides denote folding/scoring lines. Glue will be applied to the tabs that have been filled in solid grey on the guides.
Step 3: Fold the Props
Follow the folding guide to determine where lines need to be scored and folded. To get a consistent fold, use a ruler to help with the folding and a second straight-edged tool to help lift the paper from the surface.
Step 4: Glue the Donut Shop Props
Next, begin to hot glue the paper templates starting with the elf-sized donut box. Follow the guide to determine which tabs need to be attached. Glue tabs are indicated by a filled-in grey color in the templates.
Build the donut shop window, and then attach the awning to the donut shop.
Attach the individual donut box Part 1 to Part 2 (the long wall) by aligning the diagonal tabs up to the back of the Part 1 (hexagon shape).
