Easily make this “Will Run for Donuts” funny workout shirt with our cut file and the all-new Cricut SportFlex Iron-on – made specifically for polyester, nylon, and athletic fabrics!
I love funny workout shirts, but up until now, it’s always been a challenge to make my own because most heat transfer vinyl isn’t designed to work well on polyester “dri fit” shirts or similar stretchy athletic apparel. Until now, that it! Cricut recently introduced their all-new SportFlex Iron-On™, designed specifically for polyester and nylon tech fabrics, and it’s AWESOME! The thin lightweight iron-on moves and stretches with the fabric, and to be honest, I love it so much that I might never go back to regular iron-on again!
SportFlex Iron-On is currently available in nine individual colors (sized 11.8″ x 24″) that feature the Cricut StrongBond Guarantee for long-lasting results, and Cricut plans to expand the color selection in upcoming months as well.
JoAnn also carries SportFlex Iron-On sampler packs that come with a few additional colors that are not currently available in individual rolls.
What You Need to Make a Funny Workout Shirt:
I used my Cricut Maker for this project because I’m absolutely in LOVE with this machine, but you can use any Cricut cutting machine that you have – all of them will work!
Start by opening the “Will Run for Donuts” project in Cricut Design Space.
Use your Cricut machine to cut each of the colors of SportFlex Iron-On as needed.
Trim and weed each color of SportFlex Iron-On.
The Cricut EasyPress makes quick and easy work of applying the vinyl to your shirt. Simply set the EasyPress to 305 degrees and press for 30 seconds, then press for 15 seconds on the back of the garment – easy peasy!
Start with the gold donut base, and continue to layer each color as shown above. NOTE: Cricut suggests that layering SportFlex Iron-On should be limited to two layers, but since there are only a few smaller areas of my design that have more layers, I decided to give it a try anyway, and it worked like a charm! I do recommend waiting for each layer to cool until it is warm (vs. HOT) before peeling to avoid any wrinkling or other issues.
I absolutely LOVE how my new funny workout shirt came out! I’ve had this “Will Run for Donuts” design on my to-make list for well over a year now, and my dream finally came true thanks to SportFlex Iron-On!
Easy peasy and totally adorable, right?!
I can’t wait to show off my new shirt on my next run, and I am beyond thrilled to have STRETCHY iron-on available that’s perfect for workout wear – I see LOTS more funny workout shirts in my future!
